Weekly Checklist for SPRING Stewards

1. Read our Spring Weekly Garden Guidance
2. Check the Virtual Garden Notebook (bottom of page) to see what’s new/what needs attention from last week
3. Garden needs will vary greatly depending on the weather:
   • Enjoy some time outdoors!
   • Water – Scroll down for instructions! Soil in the top 6″ should feel like a damp sponge – neither wet nor dry. Report leaks/dryness in a new visit form.
   • Weed – Any new sprouts in lettuce beds should be treated as a weed and removed. Later in the spring, weeds will start to pop up around beds. Early thorough weeding means less work throughout the growing season! All removed plant matter can go in school compost containers or be taken home to compost.
   • Check for vandalism
   • Tidy up – Coil the hose, gather up trash etc.
4. Fill out Garden Notebook “New Visit Form” – Entries cannot be edited, but multiple entries are welcome!

• Las necesidades de la huerta variarán mucho dependiendo del clima:
  • ¡Disfruta de un tiempo al aire libre!
  • Regar – ¡Desplácese hacia abajo para obtener instrucciones! La tierra en los 6″ superiores debe sentirse como una esponja húmeda, ni mojada ni seca. Reportar pérdidas o sequedad en un nuevo formulario de visita.
  • Maleza – Cualquier brote nuevo en las camas de lechuga debe tratarse como maleza y eliminarse. Más tarde en la primavera, las malas hierbas comenzarán a aparecer alrededor de las camas. ¡El deshierbe completo hecho de forma temprano significa menos trabajo durante la temporada de crecimiento! Toda la materia vegetal eliminada puede ir a los contenedores de abono de la escuela o llevarse a casa para hacer abono.
  • Revise si hay vandalismo
  • Ordenar – Enrolle la manguera, recoja la basura, etc.
• Complete el “Formulario de nueva visita” de Garden Notebook – Las entradas no se pueden editar, ¡pero se aceptan múltiples entradas!

Spring irrigation instructions for pioneer:

• Each school has unique needs for irrigation in Spring.
• Extreme care must be taken to avoid the risk of damage to irrigation systems and school building plumbing.
• All irrigation must be disconnected after every use in the Spring season.

• Cada escuela tiene necesidades únicas de riego en primavera.
